Situation:

Mount Notre Dame (MND) has been offering young women a challenging, college-preparatory curriculum spanning over three centuries. In 1998, FSN was initially contracted to provide network support to the school’s growing computer labs. Over the years, FSN became a trusted partner supporting the school’s IT personnel to enhance the network as technology continued to evolve. In 2009, Mount Notre Dame decided to adopt a one-to-one Tablet PC Program, giving students complete access to computers as they prepare for higher learning and beyond.

Solution:

As part of a phased approach to install a Tablet PC Program, it was determined to initially provide teachers with mobile devices. A year later began the integration of Tablet PCs with the incoming freshmen (Class of 2014). A wireless network was installed throughout the building. A deployment server was also installed enabling software updates to be made universally, rather than manually updating each Tablet PC. A vigorous back-up solution was created to support the dramatic increase of stored data. Finally, a Microsoft Exchange server was implemented, enabling each student to have a school-sponsored email account.

Results:

The school began with a handful of static computer stations in labs and grew to an enterprise-wide network that will eventually support the full faculty and student body, each with a Tablet PC. In today’s educational environment, the network must to be up 100% to accommodate late night study habits. The existing IT infrastructure fosters a dynamic E-learning environment to achieve the mission of the school.
