La Salle High School

Situation:

The La Salle High School network was in need of upgrading based on a decision to embrace a tablet PC program to engage students with eLearning beginning in 2010-2011 academic year.   In the spring of 2008, FSN was retained to contribute towards realizing this vision.  Further, when an IT consultant maintaining the existing infrastructure left unexpectedly FSN assumed responsibility of managing the current network.

Solution:

The building was equipped with a state-of-the-art Cisco wireless network.   Underperforming legacy servers were consolidated through virtualization while dedicated servers for Moodle, a content management system and DyKnow, a one-to-one classroom management application were installed.  A Windows deployment server for software updates was implemented, allowing for school-wide installs versus updating each computer one at a time.  A rapid recovery solution was subsequently implemented giving the school the ability to recover and restore files almost immediately.

Results:

A culmination of over five years of work, in the fall of 2010 incoming freshmen and sophomore students were issued tablet computers.  For the academic year beginning in 2012, every student utilizes a tablet PC.  A vigorous IT infrastructure allows students to securely access information 24/7.  Driven internally and supported by FSN’s technical expertise the payoff is a robust network that supports a 21st century learning environment for students.

“FSN gave us the critical support and insight to develop an infrastructure that maximized our classroom efficiency for the benefit of our students.”
